It’s Russia Who Started the Hoax about Soros Paying Muslim Migrants: New Protocols of the Elders of Zion?

Putin sees the beginning of his fight with the West in the “color revolution” in Ukraine of 2005. He rightly believes that the West interfered in the Ukrainian movement against his client, President Yanukovich. The West continued to give energetic support to anti-Russian movements elsewhere in the former USSR, and supported Georgia in its war with Russia in 2008. The current hacking and propaganda campaign aimed at the European Union and America is Putin’s revenge.

One of the latest manifestations of the Kremlin’s destabilization efforts is the disinformation campaign against George Soros, the Hungarian-American financial speculator and philanthropist. Soros’ Open Society Foundation and other public service activities support pro-democracy movements world-wide. He has become a thorn in the side of regimes from China to Turkey to Israel to Hungary, who pursue a model that Hungary’s PM Viktor Orbán calls “illiberal democracy.” Russian propaganda associates all opposition to illiberal regimes (or those that aspire to become illiberal) as part of the “color revolution” wave, directed by hidden manipulators like Soros.

Orbán’s attacks on Soros and Budapest’s Central European University (CEU), which Soros founded, have gained the anti-Soros campaign wide exposure. But older than the anti-CEU row is the hoax that Soros financed the Muslim “invasion” (read, migrant crisis) in 2015. This canard began on the Russian Sputnik News on October 8, 2015. The propaganda site explicitly compared the migrant crisis to the color revolutions. It referenced an “independent Polish journalist,” Konrad Stachnio. But Stachnio, a regular contributor to Moscow-based NEO / New Eastern Outlook site, only published his piece the next day, October 9!

The attacks on Soros, who is Jewish, sadly recall the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, the infamous Russian forgery of old, which accused Rothschild, also a Jewish money man, of bankrolling both communists and capitalists as the head of a World Jewish Conspiracy. While the more “respectable” leaders like Putin or Orbán avoid the Jewish link, some of the low-down internet trolls make the connection between Soros and Rothschild explicit. Just as the Russians planning this hoax must have expected.
